A Belgian-made black comedy in the style of a documentary, C'est arrivé près de chez vous or Man Bites Dog/It Happened In Your Neighbourhood follows the exploits of a serial killer as he explains his methods and philosophy. Brutal, unflinching, funny and violent. It was suggested that club members not watch it just before going to bed...

MotW for March 19 - The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover
No, this was not a 4-film bonanza, but rather the rather very long name of a very complicated movie. The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover was controversial when it was released in 1989, due to its sexual and violent content. The plot can seem a little convoluted, but as an example of Formalism in Cinema it is wonderful.

MotW for March 12 - The Hudsucker Proxy
Perhaps one of the lesser known of the Coen Brother's filmography, The Hudsucker Proxy is a pre-Fargo goofy comedy co-written by Sam Raimi. A great pick-me-up movie for anyone, one of Tim Robbins' most interesting performances.

MotW for March 5 - Lost In Translation
(From the wiki* article) Lost In Translation is a film which "explores themes of loneliness, alientation, insomnia, existential ennui, and culture shock". Given that in this day and age these are problems experienced by most at one time or another it's easy to see why this dramedy has such universal appeal.

MotW for February 26 - The Warriors
Despite being the clear winner for Week 16, The Warriors was met with a peak amount of disinterest from the group. This mod stll hasn't had a chance to watch it, as the Livestream watch that week was cancelled. So no mini-review, but here is all the info just the same:

MotW for February 19 - Primer
15 weeks, 15 submissions, 15 votes and finally: Primer won!
A low budget success story is captivating enough, but Primer's convoluted and deeply layered plot really gets into your head. To say that it requires multiple viewings is all the help you'll find here.
