MotW for Dec. 11 - Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives Of Others)

German-language this time, Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others) is an understated, moving character-drama examining the concepts of truth, change, and free will. It's the winner of dozens of awards, including the 2007 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. It is slow-building, but don't take that to mean boring. It will still have you on the edge of your seat.

MotW for Dec. 4th - 12 Angry Men

"Oh thank FSM", said some, "no subtitles this week!". Indeed, 12 Angry Men is our first English-language MotW. A classic B&W from 1957, 12 Angry Men "tells the story of a jury made up of 12 men as they deliberate the guilt or innocence of a defendant"*. This may sound dry, but be assured that this film is a tense, emotion-driven morality play examining the meaning of "reasonable doubt". Don't miss it!

Movie of the Week for Nov. 27 - Batoru Rowairaru (Battle Royale)

Three weeks, three movies, three languages.

As with last week Battle Royale is a novel adaption, and the controversial Japanese drama/horror also poses an ethical question: if you were trapped in a last-man-standing game what would you do to survive? Could you kill your best friend?

Movie of the Week for Nov. 20 - Låt den rätte komma in (Let The Right One In)

For our second MotW we've gone the subtitles route again, this time with a Swedish vampire "drama, fantasy, horror, romance, thriller". Despite being a vampire novel adaptation, Låt den rätte komma in (Let The Right One In) is no Twilight. This movie is dark, spooky, beautiful and thought-provoking. Don't miss it.

Logo!

Last week we, the mods, thought it was about time that this increasingly popular subreddit had its own logo.

We put it to a vote, and after some photoshopping we were given an excellent MST3K-style logo we can be proud of. The runners-up were also fantastic, and can be seen here in the original post.

By the way, which movie do you think the alien is watching?
